USADB Youth News

The USADB is proud to roll out the inaugural USADB Youth Deaf Prep Basketball Awardages initiated nationwide today. Behind the leadership of Youth Director, Leonardo Gutierrez, the USADB and USADB Youth is pleased to present these honors, along with informing every school nationwide that the East-West All-Star Games and our annual Elite Camps will return in 2023.

CSDR Girls
The California – Riverside Cubs finished the season at 20-2, including their first Arrowhead League title in 36 years. The team saw Senior Bree Goldstein honored as League Player of the Year, Sophomore Gianna Visco as the Defensive Player of the Year. Three other players – Seniors Giselle Visco, Enza Visco and Junior Jada Zarembka were also named to the All-Arrowhead League.

Bree Goldstein
A senior, she averaged 17 ppg, 5 rpg and 4 apg while leading the California-Riverside team to a 20-2 season record, including an Arrowhead League championship. She also scored exactly a thousand points in her high school career, without her junior season being played due to COVID-19 shutdown.

Laura Edwards
In her 30th year of coaching high school basketball, Coach Laura Edwards has earned her first mythical Deaf Prep national title, leading the California-Riverside Cubs to an Arrowhead League title and finishing the season 20-2.

John Monahan
Wrapping up his 25th and final season as the Galloping Ghosts Boys Basketball Coach, John Monahan led the boys to an 16-2 season.  Retiring with a total of 321 career victories, Coach Monahan goes out with a grand finale: undefeated in Mass Bay Independent League (9-0), and a 13 time New England Deaf Schools Tip-off Basketball champion.

MPS Ghosts
Wrapping up his 25th and final season as the Galloping Ghosts Boys Basketball Coach, John Monahan led the boys to an 16-2 season.  Retiring with a total of 321 career victories, Coach Monahan goes out with a grand finale: undefeated in Mass Bay Independent League (9-0), and a 13 time New England Deaf Schools Tip-off Basketball champion.

National Team of the Year - MPS Ghost

Bruce Brewer Jr
One of the most scintillating players in the recent decade, this 5’11 dynamo led the New Mexico Roadrunners to a 9-10 season record while scoring 27 points per game, along with 9 rebounds and 5 assists per game.  Frequently double and triple teamed, this young man also led the Roadrunners to the 2022 Great Plains basketball championship and was selected to the second team Class A All-State team. He also has been selected to the 2022 Deaflympics Men’s Basketball team. He finishes his Roadrunner career with 1557 points, with his junior season closed due to COVID-19 shutdown.
