USA Deaf Basketball is a non-profit organization and the national governing body serving Deaf and Hard of Hearing for men’s and women’s basketball in the United States. As a recognized governing body for basketball in the United States by the USA Deaf Sports Federation (USADSF) and the Deaf International Basketball Federation (DIBF), USA Deaf basketball is responsible for the selection, training and fielding of USA teams that compete in DIBF sponsored international competitions, as well as for some national competitions.

A brief synopsis of the various competitions in which USA Basketball teams participate includes:
Men’s and women’s Deaflympics basketball competition is held every four years (2017, 2021, etc.). The USA men have captured the gold in 14 of the 15 Deaflympics in which they have competed and compiled an incredible 85-1 record. The USA women have earned the gold in seven consecutive Deaflympics starting in 1981 until 2009, when they placed second to Sweden at the Deaflympics in Taipei, Taiwan. Not to be denied for long, the USA women’s squad recaptured the gold medal four years later, at the 2013 Deaflympics in Sofia, Bulgaria. Currently, they boast a sterling 53-2 record. The 2017 Summer Deaflympics Games will be held July 18- 30 in Samsun, Turkey.
DIBF World Cup/DIBF World Championship
DIBF World Championship first began in 2003 in Athens, Greece, two years after the 2001 Deaflympics. Since its inception, the USA women have won every gold medal at every DIBF World Championships while the USA men have yet to earn its first gold. The next DIBF Men and Women’s Basketball World Chammpionships will be held in Lithuania in the summer of 2019.
Pan American Games/DIBF America Championship
Started in 1972 for men and 1996 for women, the Pan American Games are held every four years (2020, 2024, etc.) in the year preceding the Deaflympics. USA Men won the gold last summer (2016) in Frederick, Maryland. USA women won by forfeit since no other countries in Americas participated. Countries from DIBF Americas are eligible to compete. The USA men have an 24 – 3 overall record, winning eight of a possible 7 gold medals, while the USA women have won seven of 5 gold medals, including 2012, and own a 18-1 record.
